Before the days of giant,silver grain bins,farmers used to store their grain in cribs.Cribs were made for corn picked still on the cob,and when combines made their debut,corncribs lost their use(even though some were reto-fitted to handle shelled corn).Cribs were built extra solid to handle the weight of the ear corn,that's why so many are left today.These two survivors were pretty upscale in their day-the one in the background especially nice and large(two elevator openings on the roof attests to its large capacity).The large one in the background also had overhead storage for soybeans,while the one in the foreground was solely for cob corn.

 

These look so much better than a couple of silver bins....
