Each bay in old ordinance plant had one of the signs listing the maximum pounds of explosives permitted,number of operators,and the number of "casuals" permitted.According to the owner of this area,the only death at the plant occurred in this section when a live explosive went off and killed a women employee.Green River was the only Illinois ordnance plant to make rocket propelled bazooka ammo.As many as 13000 workers were employed at the plant in its 4 year history.Some of these signs had an "E" painted under them-the plant was awarded an efficiency award by the Dept. of Defense in 1944.
