These forlorn remains of a once thriving farm near Manlius,IL.have been decaying for a long time. In this area,I counted 5 farmsites along a two mile stretch that are either abandoned or have no farmhouses and are used for storage.What's ironic is this area along Interstate 80 stretching east to Princeton,IL. contains some of the most fertile land in the northern half of Illinois.Fertile land that cannot support successful smaller farmers. Its a sad fact in today's farming economy. These days you have to be big to achieve those economies of scale to survive...
