from the ashes...

The Palace of the Fine Arts was saved from destruction after its use in the 1915 San Francisco Pacific Exposition. Sadly, the majority of the structures built were demolished shortly after the year long show, though a few were bought and moved. The Palace was actually modeled after a famous French chateau and was the showcase of the show. It was never built for permanence, in 1964 it was totally reconstructed. An auditorium was added later which allowed the property to be used for festivals, art shows, and special events.
