too close for comfort...

One of the tornados that struck Illinois Tuesday began less than 3 miles north of my farm near Sterling.I was out watching the storm roll in and there was a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for our county, but frankly,I've seen more "dramatic" storms.I had heard(and went to see later)that there was a cattle farm about 6 miles NE of us that had been badly damaged(thankfully no injuries). But when the National Weather Service came out Friday with the news of the path of the tornado,I was shocked to say the least! The tornado started at around 5pm,this pic was taken at 4;59.It was just beginning to rain at this moment,so I'm guessing the funnel was somewhat hidden. At our farm we had little wind, just torrential rain and a little hail. This is the closest I've ever been to a tornado, and I didn't even know it!

The tornado was an EF 1,meaning winds of 100mph.And in true tornado fashion,it skipped around, missing several farms before hitting the cattle farm about 3 miles from its starting point....

An article about the outbreak in my area...
