One of the old water towers from the long closed Green River Ordinance Plant near Amboy,IL. at dusk.Green River opened in 1942 to manufacture munitions for World War II. One of the unique weapons that was developed there was the flamethrower.The munitions were stored in series of bunkers located all around the plant-many of those remain today.The plant closed quickly in 1945 with the end of the war after employing as many as 4500 workers at one time...
