Abandoned entrance to an old castle in the woods near Oregon,IL.The castle was built in the late '20s as a private residence and was sold to the Presbyterian Church which now uses it as a retreat center,by also holds a popular Olde English Faire every October.The castle's location on the bluffs above the Rock River makes for some great river views as well nature walks.

 

The castle was modeled after the Hearst Castle in California.The builder,Walter Strong,was a media tycoon with the Chicago Tribune.He did much of the designing and work himself.Sadly he only lived in the castle 2 years before dying...

 

By the way,there is another entrance to the castle down the road,however,it shows a lot less atmosphere....
