The iconic Roy's on old Route 66 is now open again on a limited basis.Built in 1938,Roy's grew to become one of California's most popular stops on old Route 66.A hotel,restauarant,24 hour garage and filling station were all part of the popular stopping place.After old Route 66 was decommissioned in 1972,Roy's and the town of Amboy were effectively cutoff and went into a tailspin that they were really never able to come out of.The caretaker that was running the service station the day we stopped was a very informative character...and only too happy to sell us some $5 gas....
