the incredible hulk....

A week ago this was a shiny red Case combine.I happened to drive by this farm last month when the farmer was washing it,getting it "nice and pretty" for this harvest season. That all changed when soybean residue built up around the engine and caught on fire. The operator never knew it was on fire till the engine died.Thankfully,no one was hurt, and 2 days later they had a new shiny red Case completing the field...

Combine fires are all too common.I hear of one in my area about every other year.We have never had one,but once our combine started a field fire which burned about 5 acres before it was put out.It is almost always the result of plant debris building up around the engine-windy and hot days are the most dangerous.

Farming itself is rated as the 4th most dangerous occupation in the US,well ahead of policeman and fireman(fishing is number 1).I have seen some accidents and the results of some accidents, that I will never forget.I had a very close friend die from one years ago.It has made me much more careful, but some accidents are hard to avoid.Be careful out there!
