When you drive around the rural Midwest it becomes readily apparent you are witnessing the slow extinction of an American icon,the barn.Once the pride of a farm,now because of advances in agriculture,it has become a liability,especially if it is in deteriorating condition.Most were built in the early part of the 1900's,making the upkeep expensive.This barn would easily cost tens of thousands of dollars to renovate.
I remember many years ago visiting an older farmer who had a barn in similar condition that he was still using.He told us that he was hoping to start working on it "next year".Driving by several days ago showed that "next year" never came....
