Green River opened in 1942 and at its peak,employed nearly 4000 workers.It closed in 1945 and many of the warehouses and plants were sold to private companies.Contamination is still a problem in some of the former plant sites-the area is listed as a Brownfield site and ongoing hazardous waste cleanup is ongoing....
