IMG_2493-0CC(W) Shield Ants (Meranoplus mucronatus)

Meranoplus mucronatus like most species of this genus are slow moving spiny ants with a heart shaped gaster. Of the Meranoplus from this location, Meranoplus mucronatus is one of the largest measuring over 6 millimeters.

Location: Rainforest of Malaysia

Size: less than 1 cm each

Actually this ant species can be found near disturbed area, forest edge and human settlement.
