Missing Duck Eggs
I'd been checking in on the ducklings at this particular pond from time to time, but the last time I had checked all the ducklings (about a dozen plus) were missing (found one dead).
These eggs were surrounded by domestic muskovies that day, laid among the "knees" of a towering bald cypress tree. Sadly, the next time I visited this site, I discovered two eggs missing and one destroyed. A young couple I spoke with reported that they had witnessed a man "gathering", i.e. stealing, a number of eggs there one day (supposedly for "his" pond).
Of the more than 30 ducklings hatched here this past season, only 1 or 2 remain. UPDATE: None remaining.
