Stage lighting is an art, it is impossible to formalize and define a general approach to stage lighting. However, several principles of construction can still be distinguished:

The first principle is that stage lighting does not exist by itself, but is the basis for creating a visual image that should emphasize the action and space taking place on the stage. The light, while remaining static, emphasizes the facial expressions and gestures of soloists, musicians, conductor, beauty and brilliance of instruments, etc. All this together creates a solemn atmosphere that, together with music, creates a mood for the listeners.

Second principle. Stage lighting cannot be monotonous throughout the entire action. The performance of one piece is over, you can give more light to the musicians and highlight the conductor when he turned to face the audience. As in dance and music, lighting must have accents and pauses, dynamics, style and harmony.

Third principle. Clear visibility of what is happening. This raises questions about both the amount of light required to design a particular stage action, and the distribution of light throughout the entire stage space.

Fourth principle. A lighting designer must clearly understand what he is lighting: performers, decorations, a certain element of architecture or scenery on the stage, the space of the stage, the background, etc., when it is necessary to illuminate the subject in time.
