Gate Church of the New Jerusalem Monastery

The gateway Church of the Entry into Jerusalem of the New Jerusalem Monastery was built in 1694-1697. at the same time with a powerful stone fence and towers. Initially, the gate church was wooden and did not last long.

On December 10, 1941, the Nazi troops (sappers of the 614th regiment of the SS "Reich" division), retreating from Moscow, blew up the Church of the Entry of the Lord in Jerusalem along with the Cathedral of the Resurrection of Christ. Recovery began in 1970-1976. In the course of the restoration work in the monastery, which began at the end of 2008, the gate church became the first restored architectural object. The Gate Church of the Entry of the Lord into Jerusalem was re-consecrated on November 5, 2013 by His Holiness Patriarch Kirill.

 

The Resurrection New Jerusalem Monastery is a historically stauropegic monastery of the Russian Orthodox Church in the city of Istra, Moscow Region.

The monastery was founded in 1656 by Patriarch Nikon, according to whose plan the complex of the holy places of Palestine was to be recreated near Moscow.
