Istra river and colors of autumn.

Istra is a river in the Moscow region of Russia, a left tributary of the Moscow River. Together with the reservoir formed on the river, it is part of the water supply system of the city of Moscow. In the middle of the 17th century, the Moscow Patriarch Nikon was named Jordan.

The first mention of the Istra River dates back to 1461 and is contained in the spiritual letter of the Grand Duke Vasily Vasilyevich.

The length is 113 km, the area of the basin, which includes about 190 watercourses with a total length of 885 km, is 2050 km². The width of the river in the lower reaches is 17-30 meters, the depth is 1.0-1.5 meters, the speed of the current is 0.1-0.3 m / s, the bottom is sandy. Ichthyofauna is represented by such fish species as roach, bleak, dace, minnow, ruff, perch, bream; chub, gudgeon, char, ide, asp are found in catches below the Istra hydroelectric complex. The river is popular with hikers and water tourists. On the river is the city of Istra, as well as numerous settlements, sanatoriums and rest houses.

The Resurrection New Jerusalem Monastery is located on the river.

In 1885, the artist Isaac Levitan came to Istra for sketches and was struck by the beauty of these places.
