Police deployed tear gas, rubber bullets and flares during a protest in Berkeley, Calif., on Saturday, Dec. 6, 2014.The peaceful march got out of control around 6 p.m. as a splinter group started looting businesses including a Trader Joe's grocery story on University Avenue and Martin Luther King Jr. Way. Saturday's march was the latest in a series of Bay Area protests after the New York grand jury's decision on Wednesday not to indict a white police officer in the chokehold death of Eric Garner, an unarmed black man.
