L'isola di Capraia è stata sede, dal 1873 al 1986, di una Colonia penale agricola. Tale colonia penale fu destinata alla rieducazione dei condannati a pene lievi che dimostravano di potersi redimere. Nel corso dei decenni furono realizzate opere di bonifica, costruzione di strade e di strutture di vario tipo. Ora è in rovina e abbandonata.
The island of Capraia was the site of an agricultural penal colony from 1873 to 1986. This penal colony was intended for the re-education of those sentenced to light sentences who showed that they could redeem themselves. Over the decades, land reclamation works and the construction of roads and various types of structures were carried out. It is now in ruins and abandoned.
