Smitty's Marketplace magnet c1998

Orange and a dark, dark purple... *this* (under a few names) is the grocery store I remember shopping at when I first came out here. Fred Meyer used the same "Marketplace" text and color theme, but with its big, italicized Helvetica wordmark instead of the super-90s script.

A look at some trademark filings from the mid-90s reveals Smitty's Super Valu Inc. was located at 2626 S. Seventh Street in Phoenix, which is a warehouse-type facility. It had to be closed and consolidated with Fry's warehouse in Tolleson upon the Kroger-FM merger, as there's another business in the space.

In the late 80s and early 90s, Smitty's used this logo that has to date to the 60s. The correct color for the wordmark is blue. i.imgur.com/aWVzA6M.gif

They also had another logo, used for a hot moment in the mid-90s: www.youtube.com/watch?v=QZNdPbT9QXk - Apparently this logo was used when Smitty's left the ownership of Canadian Steinberg and fell into the hands of The Yucaipa Companies, and it was supposed to advertise that American ownership was back (since it annoyed people when Smitty's was bought by a Canadian concern).
