Na Pali's Hidden Beaches of Honopu
These two hidden and isolated beaches, sometimes called Cathedral Beach, on the Na Pali Coast are joined by a 90 foot high arch through the base of the rocky outcropping separating them. The magnitude of sizes involved here is difficult to appreciate from an aerial view with the sheer cliff at the base of the horseshoe on the left being about 1000 feel high.
The Honopu Valley extending up towards the right has been called the "Valley of the Lost Tribe" for a group, the Menehune, that flourished here over 100 years ago and then disappeared (please see Wikipedia for further information). No landing of any boat or aircraft is allowed on the beach or in the valley, believed to be very spiritual, unless they belong to Hollywood movies, of which several have been filmed here. The name Honopu derives from the sound like a conch shell produced when a north wind blows through the arch.
A different perspective of this area of the Na Pali Coast is captured from sea level by boat.
