This "composite flower" (flower head) has deep, rich purple tones. Each tiny flower is not much more than an inch (2.5 cm) long. The flower stem is such a dark purple it almost looks black. Even though I took this photo in one of the gardens here at home in October, I cannot for the life of me recall now what it is called...ooops.

Purple is the synthesis of red and blue, the former being a very warm colour, the latter a very cool one. The result, purple, can therefore effect people differently, stimulating or calming for example, in part determined upon the intensity of each of the two primary colours.
