"There is a crack in everything.
That's how the light gets in." Leonard Cohen, Selected Poems, 1956-1968
---------------
I first saw Leonard Cohen perform live in 1970 and have seen him several times since (most recently 3 or 4 years ago). I read his book "Beautiful Losers" in '70 or '71 and produced an audio essay (on open reel tape!) for a university course analyzing the songs in his album "Songs from a Room" which was released in 1969. Cohen is a Canadian songwriter, poet, singer, musician, novelist and painter. In his works he has explored religion, politics, isolation, sexuality, and personal
relationships. Leonard Cohen has been inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame, the Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame and the American Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. He is a Companion of the Order of Canada, our highest civilian honor. In 2011, he received a Princess of Asturias Awards for literature. In 1994 he retreated to the Mt. Baldy Zen Center, beginning 5 years of seclusion. In 1996, Cohen was ordained as a Rinzai Zen Buddhist monk. (Source and additional information:
