Main Shopping Street - Lizhuang

Lizhuang is extraordinary - a vision of how a small Sichuan town functioned during the early years of the 20th century. Although a 'Heritage Site' - its not a museum, people live here and go about their daily lives. Of course the streets are cleaner than they might ordinarily be - but I was impressed by the fabulous carved decoration above each shop entrance, and the fact that the shops are not forced to cater for tourists or sell 'period' items: this plastic ware is pure 'late 20th century'!
