Suspended in Time
Love is much like a wild rose, beautiful and calm, but willing to draw blood in its defense.
It was difficult to get this shot right, but I'm pleased with the final outcome. For starters, the red fluid is not blood, but red food coloring - I put some drops in the core of the petals while the flower was upright, then dropped it to the ground on two sheets of white paper. The drops flew out in the way I wanted them to, but they immediately soaked into the paper and took on a lighter tone of pink. My mother gave me the idea of placing waxpaper on top of the ordinary paper, which worked wonderfully; the droplets couldn't infuse with the fibers of the paper and remained in perfect globules. There's a lot of symbolism that goes into this photograph, but I feel like I haven't COMPLETELY established the link between blood, the rose and love - perhaps you guys could help me out. There's something so natural pulling the three together, like they go hand in hand.
