Class 313's - the beginning of the end
37800 with 313202, 313214 and 312217 passes Eastleigh East yard working 5Q86 1024 Lovers Walk T&R.S.M.D to Eastleigh Arlington.
Presumably this was the first movement for scrapping, but the choice of this location would suggest some form of component recovery initially before falling victim to the gas torch.
One of the last BR era classes of EMU left on the entire network, being of BREL York manufacture in 1976 / 1977. This working represented the first withdrawal movement of the class 313 'PEP' units from mainline action.
They are due to be totally eliminated from the main line by May 2023. It is a little ironic that the external condition of the withdrawn units was much cleaner than the 37 hauling them.
