6G15 at Bedhampton

The diminutive Coalfish ballast wagons, rebodied former HAA coal hoppers are in sharp decline currently with the mass introduction of new Wascosa branded MLA Falcon wagons by Network Rail. A decree is in place currently that any defect found to a coalfish, however small results in their withdrawal from traffic and condemnation. Many have already gone to various scrap yards for cutting up.

Sights such as this will soon be history as the momentum for Coalfish wagon withdrawal gathers pace (TOPS code MTA, HMA & MPA).

66708 and 66765 (out of sight on the rear) form the 6G15 10:00 Fareham – Eastleigh East yard empty ballast in connection with a weeklong engineer’s occupation of the Eastleigh to Fareham line for tunnel and drainage work just outside Fareham.

Seen at Bedhampton headed up the Portsmouth direct and reversal at Woking. 11 coalfish wagons can be seen immediately behind 66712 with some MXA lobsters towards the rear.
