The station opened in 1847 and was rebuilt in the early 20th century with the Victory Arch being completed in 1923. The underground station opened in 1898.
Part of Waterloo was rebuilt in the 1990s for the Eurostar terminal which opened in 1995 and continued until the service moved to St Pancras Station. The former Eurostar platforms are now brought back into use for regular services.
