On the 18th July 2024 the Thames sailing barge 'Blue Mermaid' passes Coalhouse Fort on the River Thames.
Blue Mermaid is a replica built in 2015 from the plans of Mistley Shipbuilding Company for the original vessel of the same name which was launched in 1930 as one of the two last full-sized sailing barges built for trade. The original barge was lost in the second world war with all hands and like the original, the replica is not fitted with an engine. On the still day the barge was being rowed but by this point the dinghy was providing assistance.
