Off the Berth
On the 31st March 2018 the 'Oldenburg' (1958, 294GRT) leaves Ilfracombe for Bideford. This was a positioning move having arrived from Lundy on the third sailing of the season.
The 'Oldenburg' is named after the former grand duchy of Oldenburg, Germany, and built in Bremen. She was delivered to Deutsche Bundesbahn Schiffsdienst Wangerooge for use on a ferry service between the mainland and the Frisian island of Wangerooge.
Between 1975 and 1985 she was used on various operations including duty free sailings from Germany.
In November 1985 she was sold to the Lundy Co. Ltd and has since provided a freight and passenger service to the island in the Bristol Channel.
