Media City Footbridge
Crossing the Manchester Ship Canal, the Media City Footbridge forms a major component of the Salford Quays regeneration by linking the new Media City development on the north quay with Trafford Wharf on the south quay.
A very original approach to design – but one which had to be in context and respond to the practicalities of the site – was called for. Elements considered included the location’s geometric constraints, the fact that, as with the Lowry Centre Footbridge nearby, the bridge needs to accommodate ship structures up to 20m high, and that the client wishes the bridge to be a destination in its own right; “a unique and memorable landmark”.
