Borgo di antiche origini, ebbe grande splendore nel Medioevo e nel Rinascimento. Spilimbergo conserva ancora oggi l’impianto urbano dell’epoca, con strade porticate, vicoli e piazzette, palazzi affrescati e innumerevoli opere d’arte nelle chiese. La città è anche conosciuta come capitale dell’arte musiva: è “Città del mosaico” grazie all’attività di una scuola unica al mondo nel suo genere, nata nel 1922.

A village of ancient origins, it had great splendor in the Middle Ages and the Renaissance. Spilimbergo still preserves the urban layout of the time, with porticoed streets, alleys and small squares, frescoed buildings and countless works of art in the churches. The city is also known as the capital of mosaic art: it is the "City of Mosaic" thanks to the activity of a school unique in the world of its kind, founded in 1922.
