I nonni di oggi hanno un ruolo centrale nella vita dei nipoti, molto più che in passato. Anche se per la prima volta nella storia apprendono anche dai giovani, sul fronte tecnologico
Accudiscono i nipoti mentre i genitori lavorano, li accompagnano a scuola o alle attività extra-scolastiche, li seguono nei compiti, giocano con loro: i nonni oggi sono molto presenti nella vita quotidiana di bambini e ragazzi e svolgono un ruolo centrale nell’organizzazione e gestione familiare, oltre a costituire un punto di riferimento affettivo.
Non è sempre stato così.
In passato l’elevata mortalità in età anziana e l’alto numero di nascite, e quindi di nipoti, limitava la possibilità di un rapporto diretto tra nonni e nipoti. Oggi l’aspettativa di vita e le condizioni di salute in età anziana sono nettamente migliorate e i nonni possono godere della frequentazione dei nipoti per un lungo arco di tempo.

They look after their grandchildren while their parents work, accompany them to school or extracurricular activities, help them with their homework, play with them: grandparents today are very present in the daily lives of children and young people and play a central role in the organization and management of the family, as well as being an emotional point of reference.
It has not always been this way.
In the past, the high mortality rate in old age and the high number of births, and therefore of grandchildren, limited the possibility of a direct relationship between grandparents and grandchildren. Today, life expectancy and health conditions in old age have improved significantly and grandparents can enjoy spending time with their grandchildren for a long period of time.
