IL RE CAVALIERE E LA GALANTERIA.
Intorno all’VIII secolo cominciò a diffondersi in Europa l’uso di combattere a cavallo. Questa pratica si affermò grazie all’arrivo dall’Asia della staffa. Con questo piccolo ma fondamentale accorgimento era possibile «puntellare» i piedi ed evitare di essere sbalzati di sella al primo scontro. I protagonisti di questa trasformazione furono i popoli nomadi germanici, i quali, a differenza dei Romani, erano eccellenti cavallerizzi.
Esattamente dal XI secolo, quando diventò di uso comune il “codice cavalleresco” che imponeva ai cadetti proprio delle regole di comportamento da rispettare per essere considerati meritevoli di onore.
Questo codice si basava su valori come la virtù, la difesa dei deboli e dei bisognosi, la verità, la lotta contro coloro che venivano giudicati malvagi e gli oppressori, l’onore, il coraggio, la lealtà, la fedeltà, la clemenza,la galanteria e il rispetto verso le donne, considerate il sesso debole, da salvare.
L’origine della parola "galanteria"deriva dalla vecchia Gale francese, che significava gioia, piacere e divertimento. Si sviluppa precisamente nel XVI secolo, nelle Corti di Luigi XIII e di Luigi XIV dove si trascorreva il tempo a giocare con tutti i tipi di giochi circondati da sontuosità e frivolezza.
In questo contesto, si sviluppa il senso della parola “galante”, da galant, derivato di galer, “divertirsi”, che definisce nuovamente gli uomini che hanno modi piacevoli e civili che si sforzano di piacere alle donne.

Around the eighth century the use of horse fighting began to spread in Europe. This practice was asserted thanks to the arrival of the stirrup from Asia. With this small but fundamental trick it was possible to "shore up" your feet and avoid being thrown off the saddle at the first clash. The protagonists of this transformation were the Germanic nomadic peoples, who, unlike the Romans, were excellent horsemen.
Exactly from the 11th century, when the "chivalric code" became common, which imposed on the cadets its own rules of conduct to be respected in order to be considered worthy of honor.
This code was based on values such as virtue, the defense of the weak and needy, the truth, the fight against those who were judged evil and the oppressors, honor, courage, loyalty, loyalty, clemency, gallantry and respect for women, considered the weaker sex, to be saved.
