This is my favorite part of The Last Judgment. I tried to insert myself as one of the fallen. I think the cocktail helps with that. I chose this particular part of the image because of its darker connotations. I am particularly attracted to the darker themes that run through religiously based art. Even Buddhism has some truly scary images that are not intended to frighten as much as enlighten. I am also intrigued by the license that artists take with religious ideas. To what degree is this an image of Michaelangelo's internalized fears as opposed to an external expression of what some believe is an eternal truth?
