Tansy Beetle
Chrysolina graminis. This is a very rare beetle in Britain, with the national stronghold being on the river Ouse in York where I photographed this one. I found a colony on several clumps of Tansy plant Tanacetum vulgare. The beetle spends its whole life around the plant, as both the adults and larvae feed on the plant and hibernate in the soil under the plant. This photo shows the coppery sheen as well as the metallic green colouration.
