Design No. 304: James Bond 007 Rolex Submariner 1973 "Ebiken"
atelier ying, Hong Kong
Adding to the fantastical wristwatch functions of the Bond collection, this design unites various references & plot elements of three Fleming novels with a redesign of the Rolex Submariner used in the film, Live And Let Die. The magnetic function of that watch is further developed to a magnetic induction cooking device for a rail journey party. The meal is cooked in the Aston Martin automobile. The Rolex acts as a key to activate the device. The use of the Rolex by Fleming himself as a brass knuckle weapon is commemorated (from On Her Majesty's Secret Service) and its shape is evolved with the flying saucer 'buzz saw' of Live And Let Die into the lid of a Japanese kamameshi pot pre-filled with stone crabs (from Fleming's novel Goldfinger). The Aston Martin's center control panel holds the cooking device. A small square door opens magnetically when the wrist watch is held close, and which reads the Rolex watch's code inscribed at the bottom of the watch by Q branch when the watch is placed into the circular depression. The console is lifted out at the end and carried onto the train, preferably after a train/car chase sequence. The Kama pot is capable of feeding 2-5 people depending upon which size is ordered (by advance reservation from Q branch).
Design dedicated to the designer of the 1973 Bond Rolex 5513, Syd Cain.
