Poisoned

Omnipresent DDT powder gets accumulated on plants and animals. Various tests and reports have confirmed the high level of DDT in local food products such as eggs, milk, vegetables, fish, chicken and meat in Eloor. DDT enters the food cycle through plants, transfers to animals and humans and eventually enters the DNA. A mother exposed to DDT can pass on the ill-effects to an unborn child.

‘Poisoned’ is a project dedicated to the people suffering from severe medical conditions caused by industrial pollution, across India. The contaminants explored in the project are Mercury, Asbestos and DDT.

The three contaminants depicted in the project are all banned across the world. Ranging from epilepsy, brain tumors, kidney disorders to cancer; these forgotten meager lives are fraught with not only poverty but also extreme helplessness. The threat of Industrial pollution is highly penurious.

The three centers depicting the three banned substances are- Mercury in Kodaikanal, DDT in Eloor in Cochin and Asbestos in Mumbai. All of the three places are distinctly invaded by severe health disorders and common

to all of them is the involvement of the community in the production of the toxic substance.

A way out is a strict examination of the flipside of such development. In a country where growth is synonymous to corporate development, these small voices of agony are often stifled. As these pictures would speak, the

people in these pictures are silent, with the knowledge that their enemy feeds their empty stomach.
