Machynllech shed
Preserved ex-GWR 4-6-0 7819 "Hinton Manor" at Machynlleth shed (89C) on 10 August 1987. The "Manor" class loco was working a series of special trains between Machynlleth and Barmouth and would, on this day, haul the 09.40 and 13.40 Machynlleth-Barmouth trains and their respective return trips. 7819 would have felt at home at this location, as it was allocated to Machynlleth from 1963, and was a favourite loco for working the "Cambrian Coast Express" at this time.
There are also a couple of Class 116 DMUs in the shed, but I don't appear to have recorded the numbers of these sets.
"Hinton Manor" was built at Swindon by the GWR in 1939, and was withdrawn from Shrewsbury shed in November 1965 after working out its final months on the remaining steam-hauled duties on the former Cambrian lines. It was taken to Barry scrapyard in May 1966, but was not cut up, and, in January 1973, became the 31st loco to leave Barry for preservation. It was restored to working order at Bridgnorth, on the Severn Valley Railway, and worked its first SVR trains in 1977.
