Unity Park Housing Projects in Niagara Falls, New York

Throwback photos from the old Unity Park Housing Projects in Niagara Falls, New York. They were torn down in 2006, but prior to 2006 they sat abandoned for years. Now there are nothing but overgrown empty lots where these buildings once sat. They were closed down once an apartment fire claimed the life of an 8 year old, and a baby fell out of a second story window and lost eyesight in one eye. These projects were also notorious for violent crime back in the day. There is a new set of buildings up now, named "Unity Park II" and people believe that the root cause of poverty and violence which led to the issues of the past, was never solved. Instead of fixing the root causes of the issues of the past the state simply built newer versions of the old buildings, which leads to the same issues being repeated all over again.
