Nanda Devi Sanctuary

This is a cirque of about 200 sq. kms surrounded by 18 peaks above 20,000 ft. The highest being Nanda Devi (25,645'). Climbing some of the peaks inside the sanctuary is easier than getting into it. One such easy peak is Trishul (23,360').

Nanda Devi was first climbed by H. Tilman in 1936.

The only out let for all the glaciers is only through one river - the Rishi.

This Sanctuary has been closed for decades to help its battered eco systems to recover.
