Captain's mor or bend
This is an old Orwo Chrome (which gave as good a result as Kodachrome) slide shot in October, 1972.
This stone marked the spot where this Captain's jeep had gone over. The cliff here has a drop of 250 metres almost. Many accidents have occurred at precisely this spot, which is a turn before Zoji La.
I do not think that this stone is there any more. I passed by this way in June 2004 and at that time it was missing.
Its a bit of history that ought to be restored. In 1954 the road was still being built. Slowly. Only in 1960 was a thin rough road stretched to Leh.
