Life and Hard Times along the North Eastern Frontier Railway

Upper Assam has the longest stretch in India of broad gauge railway that runs along a highway, cuts through bazaars, tea estates, shanty towns and posh houses.

The people who live alongside the twin tracks have learned to accept the hourly sounds of trains passing through round the clock. Most would not settle elsewhere.
