Or a smooth tarred road that this lovely stretch in Nubra Valley (around 10,000') of Ladakh has now? This picture was taken in October 1977. At that time only a rare tourist could visit it. Now with a tarred road there are thousands of tourists and what is more important the people from this area are not isolated.
