Landscape Ecology

Landscape fragmentation-this creates difficulties for mammals trying to move from one patch to another to find food, mates, and cover, putting them at greater risk. The fragmentation also depletes the forest with the edge effects that change the ecosystem on the outer edge of the patches of forested land. Yes, I believe this pattern to be biologically significant, this patchwork of fragmented land limits the movement of species and makes them more vulnerable when moving from one area to another.

Habitat Corridors-You can see where some of the forested areas have corridors into the next patch of forest, allowing the wildlife to get from one patch to the next without significant obstacles. I believe this to biologically significant because it allows species to move from one patch of habitat to another in relative safety.
