Tuna!

Yes, that is what these are called, Tuna. The internet says this: Prickly pears produce a fruit known as tuna, commonly eaten in Mexico and in the Mediterranean region. We saw these plants in front of a Mexican Restaurant and Anita stopped and asked if she could pick a couple (we had No Clue what they were). The lady worried she would get prickers in her hands but Anita being Anita said no problem. Did she regret it ? Yes she did!! They don't look like it but they are covered with tiny little bristles and they easily get embedded in your skin. They are edible and the fellow at this restaurant came out with a pair of tongs and harvested some of them to use as part of the menu. We have plans to go back and try them as prepared there. Anita did try the ones she picked and thought they were similar in taste and texture to a Honeydew Melon. Yes, we never know in our adventuring what will turn up! LOL
