Unfinished business.....
In the colder regions funerals often had to wait until warmer weather before graves could be dug so the deceased would be placed in holding vaults. This is the backside of what I believe is the holding vault in the Batavia New York cemetery. This cemetery opened in 1823 and contains over 8,000 graves, mostly from the 19th century. In 2002 it was listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It's all very dark and Gothic looking and the trees are very large keeping everything well shaded and dark looking. I have relatives here.
