Kinnaird Head Castle Lighthouse

The castle was originally built for the Fraser family in the 16th century on a area along the scotland coast called Kinnaird Head, but was later altered in 1787 to take the first lighthouse built by the Commissioners of the Northern Lighthouses, it was the first lighthouse in Scotland. The reflecting mirrors were engineered masterfully and could illuminate a 200watt light bulb to be seen for more than 40kms. On June 20, 1990 the lighthouse was used for the last time, after which it was replaced by a small automated unmanned lighthouse nearby. The lighthouse is still in working order today and is part of Historic Scotland. Tours can be taken into the lighthouse. The cubed shaped brick structure is known as the wine tower and was probably used to store supplies, but no one really knows what it was used for. Fraserburgh, Scotland, UK
