In the wake of the Christchurch earthquake on 22 February 2011, the University of Canterbury had to set up a collection of marquees for lectures to be conducted in, until the safety of the buildings on campus could be confirmed. This marquee was set up by the University Student Association to hold some events, including a thank you concert for the thousands of students who went into the community to volunteer digging silt out of people's properties. I had to travel past the marquee on the way to one of my lectures, and this night the clouds were very low and had this purple look to them. I find a bit of mystery in the darkness of this photograph – you're left wondering what the structure is, and the way the light shines on the peaks of the structure is really interesting.
