Cockburnspath Tower (8 of 8)
Cockburnspath remained an important possession of the Earls of Dunbar and March until their eventual forfeiture in 1435. As the keep is believed to be 15th century, it was presumably built by the new owners. In 1504 it formed part of the marriage portion or 'jointure' of Margaret Tudor, sister of Henry VIII and wife of James IV. The revenues from such properties as this enabled the queen to maintain her own court, separate to her husband's.
