Woodhall House (3)

It is no longer possible to tell where the original entrance to the tower was. Tranter suggests it may have been at first floor level, although that would be unusual in a late 16th century tower. The old entrance must have been built up when the building was restored in the 19th century, at which time, many other changes were made, such as the enlargement of the windows. The current entrance to the tower is from the modern house, through a slantwise opening slapped through to the vaulted basement chamber. This was the kitchen, measuring 19 by 13 feet, with its fireplace in the south gable, and two windows, now much enlarged, facing east.
